As president of the Illinois State Bar Association, W & T Shareholder John Thies had the opportunity to talk with Sidley Austin Senior Counsel, Newton Minow, about the many interesting historical events he has witnessed as a lawyer, including his role in helping President John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Among other things, Minow is famous for his “Vast Wasteland” speech he gave as the head of the Federal Communications Commission and for hiring a young Barack Obama as a summer law clerk at his firm.
