Webber & Thies, P.C. is a full-service law firm based in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois (the home of the University of Illinois), which represents clients from throughout Illinois and beyond. The firm’s offices are in the Lincoln Square retail and office complex, adjacent to the Champaign County and U.S. District Courts.

The firm has been providing exceptional service to its clients since its founding in 1946 by former Champaign County Judge Charles M. Webber. Our other named shareholder, Richard L. Thies joined the firm as an associate in 1955 before leaving to serve in the United States Air Force (JAGD) from 1956-1958. He returned as a firm partner in 1958, and played an active role as our senior shareholder until his passing in 2021.

The collective careers of the firm’s namesakes have had an enormous impact on not just the lawyers of our firm and the firm’s clients, but on the Champaign-Urbana community and the legal profession as a whole.

While a judge, Charles Webber was president of the Illinois County and Probate Judges Association – this organization ultimately became the Illinois Judges Association which, in 1988, awarded Webber its “Judge’s Judge” Award, recognizing a lifetime of “exceptional service” that “brought honor and respect, not only to himself, his family and community, but also to all judges of the State of Illinois.”

Richard Thies was a past president of the Illinois State Bar Association, past Chair of the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, past Illinois State Delegate of the American Bar Association, among other high offices within our profession. Included in the many awards he received during his career, in 2015, Thies received the prestigious “Lincoln the Lawyer” award from the Abraham Lincoln Association honoring him for reflecting the character and ideals of Abraham Lincoln in his legal career. Of Richard Thies, his nominator said, “For more than half a century, Richard Thies has served the interests of his clients with skill and integrity, has worked enthusiastically in support of countless civic and charitable organizations, and has provided leadership to the legal profession. Richard is an unfailing, unflinching exemplar of civic virtue and personal honor who is, in Vachel Lindsay’s words, ‘Lincoln hearted’ – Lincoln hearted in every good way.”

The current members of the firm continually work to live up to the high standards of those who have gone before and made the firm what it is today – a leader in client service, the legal profession and our community. There are few firms our size throughout the state of Illinois which have such a sterling reputation in each of these areas. The firm includes two past presidents of the Illinois State Bar Association, as well as current and former leaders and active participants in numerous professional and civic organizations and committees, including in some cases through appointment by the Illinois Supreme Court.
